As we are all aware, October 15, the start of AEP, is just around the corner. How have you planned to make this the best AEP of your career? Well if you haven’t marked October 1, 2012 on your calendar as a special day, the next few lines could help you get there.
October 1 marks the first day in which marketing of 2013 Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans is allowed. If you have clients ready to hear about Humana’s 2013 benefits, don’t wait another two weeks to reach out. Reach out October 1 and secure your chances of a sale early.
While this time period (often referred to as “Pre-AEP”) can be very valuable, here are some do’s and dont’s you’ll need to follow:
DO give a full and compliant presentation, just as if the sale were being completed that day.
DO collect an SOA prior to the appointment.
DO bring a 2013 enrollment application should the beneficiary decide they would like to fill it out.
DO fill in your agent information if the beneficiary decides to complete the application.
DO notify the beneficiary that if they mail the signed and completed application in to Humana, it will be processed on October 15, 2012.
DO leave the beneficiary with an envelope addressed to:

Lexington, KY 40509
DON’T take possession of any portion of the application prior to October 15.
DON’T encourage the member to mail the application prior to October 15.
DON’T date the form if it is completed prior to October 15. If the beneficiary signs the application at the time of the appointment, they are free to date the application the day of the appointment.
DON’T use copies of enrollment applications. Each application has a unique bar code identifier.
