It almost seems unAmerican to not want to rally around this endeavor. Humana’s Veterans Initiative Program, or HVIP features several objectives and a new product for those wanting to offer solutions to Veterans across the country. In 2011, Humana made a decision and commitment to our servicemen and women who are often overlooked and under appreciated. For starters, they pledged to hire 1,000 Veterans and/or spouses of veterans by 2013, and recently committed $1 million to sponsoring participants in the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV). As a result they have been recognized by President Obama for their support of the administration’s new national veteran-employment campaign.
Humana’s intent is to eventually offer a robust product line of insurance and financial protection products exclusively for those who have served. Their initial offering is an expansion of the Preventive Plus Dental Plan, with discounts on the already competitive premium, plus a host of value added services included, like vision, urgent/convenient care, Readers Digest, hearing, CAM, and Rx discounts! Premiums are usually less than $20 per month, with a $1,000 calendar year benefit on basic services ($50 deductible) and 100% coverage on exams and cleanings. Member+spouse and family plans also available. Humana currently has it available in 47 states (all but WA, OR, MT). And it’s pretty easy to add the HVIP Dental to your portfolio. If you’re already contracted with Humana, simply login the the Agent Portal on www.Humana.com and take the following steps:
– Click on Medicare Workbench, then the link under Training and Development
– Go to course catalogue then hit view under browse catalogue
- Enroll in and launch the Humana Veterans Initiative module
The module covers everything from benefits to facilitating a sale to Veteran’s sensitivity training. Well worth your time and consumes about 90 minutes. Commission is 10% for the life of the policy, plus the $35 policy fee in most states.
I like this for several reasons. First, it’s a great cause and one worth being involved in. What I learned recently is how few Veterans have dental benefits; only those who have a service disability can get access to a true dental plan. It can also serve as as great way to connect with new prospects who may also benefit from a Medicare Advantage plan, like MA only at $0 in most states. For those who are already clients, having a dental plan is complementary to their overall health plan coverage, which is important.
